Barack and Scott Aren't Bro's

RFD-WARNING
Last Tuesday was a great day for all Americans. It truly amazing what our fellow citizens can do when they get united behind a candidate who can articulate a clear vision of what they desire to do once seated in Washington. I'm not talking about Barack Obama. He's there already and we certainly see what he's doing, most of which is counter to his promises. No, I'm referring to Scott Brown, the newly elected Senator from Massachusetts. The folks of the first tea party, did another one much to the chagrin of President Obama and the Democrats.

Of all the post-mortem comments made since, the one by Dear Leader himself is the most enlightening as broadcast by ABC News:
(BHO) "Here's my assessment of not just the vote in Massachusetts, but the mood around the country: the same thing that swept Scott Brown into office swept me into office," the president said in an exclusive interview with ABC News' George Stephanopoulos. "People are angry and they are frustrated. Not just because of what's happened in the last year or two years, but what's happened over the last eight years."

In the breath of one sentence BHO managed to say he is a brother to Scott Brown and the anger of Massachusetts citizens is not about his policies, but President Bush's! He's not to blame, he is in the same boat as Mr. Brown. They are in this together. Everyone is unhappy because of the past eight years, inferring Americans are angry at Bush, not him.

The President is simply delusional if he thinks Americans are looking at Bush for the leap in unemployment, 12 trillion more debt since January 20, and a democratic party that is hell bent on jumping off the cliff to embrace socialism at every turn. They know the score, Mr. President, and you've struck out.

The continued excuse used by the President, that it is Bush's fault is most revealing. This is his learned response right out of the pulpit of Reverend Wright's warped Black Victimhood dogma. Obama blames everyone else for the "mess", except to look at his own policies and take individual responsibility for their failure. This line of thinking is positively dangerous, as it leads to decisions that only perpetuate the problems facing America. Citizen's have heard this canard through much of the last year and its worn thin.

So Mr. President, suggest you quit whining about what was eight years past, accept the failures of the last 12 months, and get your act together before something else nasty hits the fan.

Some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine:

Fault Line

Actor Danny Glover says the earthquake in Haiti is a result of global warming. Glover told GRITtv that it could have happened to any of the Caribbean island nations: "They are all in peril because of global warming."

Then, he lamented the failure of the climate summit in Copenhagen. As a result of that failure, he says, "this is what happened."

RFD-Warning: The Privilege of Citizenship

In the last few weeks we have witnessed the assault on American citizens by Islamofascist across the globe. The Underwear Bomber attempted to ignite a bomb on a plane over Detroit that if successful would have killed several hundred passengers and people on the ground. Yet, when the plane landed the bomber was arrested, mirandized, and began his long winding route through the U.S. justice system. But should he be afforded the same rights and privileges of American citizenship? As a veteran and speaking for other veterans, I think not. He hasn't earned the right to a citizenship.

The Watchman's Red Flag Warning is about the dilution of what it means to be an American Citizen. Once again a study of history shows what happens when a nation begins to hand out citizenship like candy to other individuals. The Roman historian Tactius described how the Roman government doled out citizenships to a broad range of non-roman individuals, affording those individuals all the rights and privileges of any native born citizen. The upshot was a nation that over time culturally no longer embraced the values that originally made Rome great. One day the barbarians of the north came knocking, and Rome no longer had the will to resist. Too many Roman "citizens" did not believe in her.

The Watchman does not wish to sound jingoistic, but if we provide these terrorists all the rights and privileges that a native born or a naturalized citizen receives, what then is the benefit that accrues to us? It devalues our citizenship to be thrown into the mix of unrepentant killers and religious fascists. What deterrence is it to the other underwear bombers coming to America if they know they will be given the same rights as Joe the Plumber, no matter how awful their acts of terror? And if we willingly give de facto-citizenship to this group, then why not recognized other groups with wholesale citizenship? Open the flood gates and let the world in.

Gaining citizenship of any nation should be a process that is not easily performed, nor provided without care or consideration for the existing cultural values of the subject nation. That is why immigration is such a sensitive issue for many nations. Each nation wants to grow, but grow with individuals who embrace, loyally, the values common to the native inhabitants. The danger of a open door approach, is development of attitudes as well as behaviors that are counter to a nation's value system.

Western Europe, and particularly France, is in the first waves of a cultural upheaval for allowing unchecked immigration and subsequent acquisition of citizenship by a large contingent of Muslims. This block of citizens are approaching 10% of the population which sociologist indicate when a group begins to have impact on a nation's culture. Thus these new citizens are demanding Sharia Law, which is counter to the Judeo-Christian values Europe is founded on. Also these nations are fearful of taking hard stands against the rise of a nuclear Iran out of fear it will cause civil unrest in their Muslim citizenry. Honoring who is granted citizenship does have unintended consequences when done so without careful consideration.

Having American citizenship should convey some aspect of respect and, yes, awe by others in the world. Never in the history of man-kind has a nation with the kind of power we've developed, and indeed exercised, has been used in such benevolent manner. We've shed American blood all over the globe, yet we haven't acquired lands, slaves, or riches. In fact, the places our nation has conquered we rebuilt and those nations today have thriving economies and cultures of their own. So why should we be so quick to grant rights of citizenship to those who do not deserve it? The point is we shouldn't.

The Watchman would support the "arrest" or "capture" of a terrorist by authorities (civil or military) and subsequent processing by an international military judicial system, such as used at the end of WWII and most recently on Serbian war criminals. Islamofascist terrorist are stateless combatants who threaten all citizens of the world. Likewise, the drug lords of Mexico and Central/South America if they began crossing international borders to commit acts of terror, should also be treated similarly.

RFD Warning - The Magic of Numbers

There is a huge debate going on in our nation over the Obama/Pelosi/Reid health care plan (OPRcare). In the debate cost and benefit numbers have been loosely thrown around by both sides. The Watchman calls them magic numbers. They magically can be whatever they want them to be, and change in a twinkling of the eye. Magic! Unfortunately the outcome we are likely to get is a health care law rammed down the throats of Americans without a clue as to the true cost or real benefits!

A CBS news article points out some interesting numbers related to OPRcare: Five Health Care Promises Obama Won't Keep
The President Could Be Close to Achieving Health Care Reform, but Not with All of his Campaign Promises
21 Sept 2009 By Stephanie Condon

Various think-tanks and the CBO has cranked out assessments of OPRcare bills now before congress. None of the proposed laws:
* Reduce the deficit - BHO criteria
* Reduce annual individual costs by $2,500 - BHO criteria
* Cover all citizens - BHO criteria
* Specifically forbid coverage of non-citizens - BHO criteria
* Protect middle class citizens from tax increases - BHO criteria
* Guarantees pre-condition coverage at SAME cost - BHO criteria
* Guarantees portability between jobs and locations - BHO criteria

So the question remains just what are we getting once the back-room deals are finished being cut and some kind of Frankenstein law is actually signed by BHO?

Other interesting numbers: Obama promises audits - sites that monitor BHO's progress on promises made in the 08 campaign.
The Obameter
The Promise Audit
Obama Promise Watch
Obama Watch
Obama Change Index
Tracking Obama's Promises

The first link above, The Obameter, is from the St. Petersburg Times which should have posted a disclaimer of political bias. They endorsed Kerry and Obama and report with a decidedly leftword bent. But their 'truth-O-meter' is the most comprehensive promise tracker out there. (Also kind of pretty too!) Again, their analysis of the data by the site's editors is subjective and biased. They have a category called "compromised" which implies a positive result, yet deeper analysis by others on the so-called compromise often finds significant deviation from the BHO promise criteria. So read this one with a grain of salt. The other linked sites also have their bias. Use all of them as general indicators at best.

The point of this Red Flag Days warning is our congressional leaders have significant mathematical disabilities and choose to use what ever numbers from a mish-mash of sources. In the senate bill, democratic political algebra uses spending cuts in medicare twice to make the numbers come out deficit neutral! In their willful ignorance of common sense and discarding logic, the majority party in congress seems more than ready to simply stir the pot on health care, pour it into a pan, half-bake it, and see what pops out in the end. Magic numbers to delude ourselves. More smoke and mirrors and wishful thinking. Does everyone feel better yet?

The Times They Are A-Changin - RFD that is!

The Watchman, after more reflection regarding the issue over a blogger being or not being a journalist, has decided to make a few changes how future postings are made to Red Flag Days (RFD). Future postings will be identified as either "RFD-NEWS" or "RFD-WARNING". RFD-NEWS is just as you might expect a factual reporting of events locally, state-wide, national, or international. RFDs will rely on similar sources as other news agencies, with proper citation to those sources. The style of these postings will be bulleted items with teaser headlines and hot linked to the complete original source.

RFD-WARNING means the content is the Watchman's personal opinion and comment on events in the news. These postings will have a style that is more in line with past postings on RFD. I will attempt to reference known sources that support my assertions and ideas as appropriate. However, as opinion, I am free to make my case as I see the issues. To paraphrase one talk-show host: Anything you read on RFD should be personally fact-checked to validate information presented. To aid my readers, I am posting links to several info checking web sites.

As editor-in-chief of RFD I am responsible for the content I choose to publish and follow generally accepted journalistic ethics. The content of RFD-WARNINGS will also be copyrighted on the day of public posting. The content may be reproduced and used by others as long as full accreditation to RFD is made by the user and any 3rd party source data remain unchanged. Please note I occasionally edit a previously published posting. This editing is only for correction of spelling/grammar or to correct a factual error, and in that case it is noted. My continual prayer: Oh Lord grant me two gifts, the ability to spell words correctly and remember the names of people I meet!

A third change or addition I have been working on is to create a link to other, more extensive writings I have done in the past several years. One of these efforts is entitled, "BRTD: Better Red Than Dead". This work is a series of essays trying to explain why I am a conservative and express views on issues I am most passionate about. The trick is getting the essays final editted, files saved into a .pdf format, loaded on to a web site, and then linking the site to RFD. Remember this is being done in my "spare" time. Patience is the watchword on this project.

Several friends have asked me for recommendations on who to read/listen to for conservative content and information. I'm working on a review of those conservatives I routinely check out and provided links to those sites. Stay tuned to this station!

These are a few changes coming in 2010. If you have any feedback on these or other comments on how to improve Red Flag Days then shoot me a note or a comment.
